The following websites offer useful information for educators, families, and community members about special education, learning disabilities, bullying prevention, school consultation, adult literacy, and national statistics.

Special Education

Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education - official site for Massachusetts’ educational services and schools.

DESE Special Education - information for Massachusetts’ residents.

U.S. Department of Education - The U.S. Department of Education's Office of Special Education Programs supports projects that provide information and technical assistance to states, local schools, educational professionals and families. The projects address topics such as autism, deafness, disproportional representation, dispute resolution, learning disabilities, parenting children with special needs, positive behavior support and transition. Most information and technical assistance is available free of charge.

Learning Disabilities

Architects For Learning - is dedicated to supporting students with all facets of language, literacy and learning. We aim to help students reach their full potential, to assist families with understanding their children's needs, and to work in partnership with teachers and schools to ensure the success of all students in their care.

Center for Teaching / Learning Mathematics - evaluates the nature of children's mathematics problems, diagnose their causes and then plan remedial instructional activities. The Center provides workshops seminars and lectures on how children learn mathematics, why learning problems occur, diagnosis and remediation of learning problems in mathematics.

Learning Disabilities Association of America (LDA) - founded in 1963 by parents of children with learning disabilities, the LDA has grown to serve thousands of members with learning disabilities, their families and the professionals who work with them. Today, LDA is the largest non-profit volunteer organization advocating for individuals with learning disabilities. The membership, composed of individuals with learning disabilities, family members and concerned professionals, advocates for the almost three million students of school age with learning disabilities and for adults affected with learning disabilities.

Life Success for Students with Disabilities: Parent Guide - This guide is based on over 20 years of research conducted by the Frostig Center in Pasadena, CA. The research traced the lives of individuals with learning disabilities in an attempt to identify factors that predicted successful life outcomes. The guide has been developed by Dr. Marshall H. Raskind, Dr. Roberta J. Goldberg, along with research associates Dr. Eleanor L. Higgins and Dr. Kenneth L. Herman.

New England INDEX: Information on Disabilities Exchange - a wealth of information for people with disabilities, their friends, families and the people who serve them. Information within this site focuses on Massachusetts.

School Psychiatry Program and Madi Resource Center of Mass General Hospital - website created for and by parents, educators, and clinicians working together to support children and teens with mental health conditions. The site will help you meet the needs of young people with depression, bipolar disorder, attention deficit / hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorders, and anxiety disorders, including panic disorder and obsessive-compulsive disorder.

Vision Impairment, Blind and Deaf Blind - state educational programs, organizations and resources for Massachusetts’ students.

VSA Arts of Massachusetts - promotes inclusion of people with disabilities in our communities and develops effective arts-based teaching strategies that allow students with and without disabilities to learn together. We are partners with schools, universities, community theaters, museums and large and small cultural organizations in every field.

Bullying Prevention

Bullying Prevention Resources from Massachusetts Department of Public Health - The Department of Public Health has a number of programs that include bullying prevention as part of their work including the Safe Spaces for Gay Lesbian Bisexual and Transgender Youth Program and the Youth Violence Prevention Program.

National Youth Violence Prevention Resource Center - Federal resource for communities working to prevent violence committed by and against young people. The mission of the NYVPRC is to provide key leaders in communities -- local government leaders and community leaders -- with dynamic resources to help support their efforts to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate effective youth violence prevention efforts.

School Consultation

School Behavior.com - This website was created by a retired teacher who taught for 20 years, and understood the needs of schools teachers, students and families. The site was created to help educators learn about neurobehavioral disorders -- the "hidden" disabilities that can impair a student's academic, behavioral, and social-emotional functioning and that can occasionally create chaos in your classroom.

School Consultant, Dr. Jeff Turley - is a board-certified Child and Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist in practice since 1985. Dr. Turley's mission is to provide the highest quality child, adolescent, and adult psychiatry to the community. He uses a humanistic, whole-person perspective. He prides himself on the clarity of his communication and the thoroughness of his reports.

Think:Kids - a program in the Department of Psychiatry at the non-profit Massachusetts General Hospital that trains adults in a revolutionary new way of helping kids with social, emotional, and behavioral challenges. We provide clinical services to families and training, consultation, support and outreach to parents, educators, clinicians, and systems.

Adult Literacy

Learning Disabilities Association Adult Literacy Reading Programs - is the largest non-profit volunteer organization advocating for individuals with learning disabilities and adults learning to read.

Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline - provides referrals to over 300 adult education programs that offer one-on-one tutoring, small-group or classroom instruction to adult learners. We provide information about basic reading, math, adult basic education, English language training, family literacy, GED preparation or testing sites.

National Center for Education Statistics - NCES provides clear, complete information about national statistics about education and programs, and serves the research, education and other interested communities.
